Upcoming Gigs

Sharing screen-time with Solli, Adelaide Writers Week

Over the next month I'm performing at 4 diverse events that I'm thrilled to be part of.

First up, esteemed South Australian poet, Jude Aquilina will launch the poetry chapbook of Stephen House on Tuesday 12th February @ 6pm for a 6.30pm start @ La Bohéme on Grote Street in Adelaide City. The book, "real and unreal" is published by ICOE Press as part of their 2018 selected chapbook series. I'm going to MC the event; and Stephen, Jude and I will perform some of Stephen poems from the collection. Stephen's poems walk on the wild side, so if that's your thing then you won't want to miss this gig. And La Bohéme are known for their most excellent cocktails. Just saying.

Second gig on the Feb calendar is Tenx9 Adelaide. Tenx9 is a regular monthly storytelling event where nine people have up to ten minutes each to tell a true story from their life. This month the theme is love ... obviously. Last year I recited poetry at two of these events but on Thursday February 14th I'll be reading a life story titled "The Best Wife in the World". It's on @ The Jade, Flinders Street, Adelaide City on 14th February, 7.30pm. (ps at time of posting there are still a couple of spots left for storytellers, so if you have a story to tell contact the organisers) It's a slightly older crowd that you'll see @ Tenx9 Adelaide, and the stories are good, well-crafted, diverse, funny. The atmosphere is relaxed and supportive of the readers. New readers always welcome.

Then, on Saturday February 16th I'm part of an Adelaide Fringe Event: The Showcase Series presented by Paroxysm Press. Over 3 huge nights, PP will present 18 of Adelaide's best underground authors, artists and spoken word performers. PP says: The poets' "work comes to the stage tight, slick and hard hitting with a stubborn desire to entertain. New work, Parxoysm favourites and a few surprises, it is the best value entertainment in the Fringe. If poetry has a punk scene, you'll find it here." I'll be performing in Round 1 - The Highbrow Series, alongside the most excellent Ian Gibbins, Kami, Heather McGinn, Sean Williams, and Heather Taylor Johnson.  Catch us at Broadcast Bar (Adelaide's best kept secret bar), 66A Grote Street, Adelaide @ 7pm. $15 Secure your ticket here

March is always Mad in Adelaide - so many festivals! I love it. This year Writers Week (presented by Adelaide Festival) is on from March 2-7 and for the first time they're having a Slam and Performance Poetry Event: Hear Me Roar! Adelaide Writers Week is unique in this country in that it's free! The Slam is no exception. Why wouldn't you? It's rated G for the family. Or maybe that's PG. (I'll leave the sex and swearing poems at home). You can check out the line-up HERE. Included are two Australian Slam champions and an international guest poet. It's on Sunday March 3rd from 2pm  - 3.30pm at the ABC Stage, Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden, King William Rd, Adelaide.

And the open mic events continue to grow in Adelaide. In Port Adelaide a monthly spoken word event launched last night: Captain Rehab at Mixed Creative, Nile Street Port Adelaide. There's a Adelaide Poetry Gig Guide on FB for more deets.

I hope you can join me at one or more of these events. There's a burgeoning spoken word scene in Adelaide with a whole lot of diverse events, something for everyone. See you around. Word Out. (haha, I've always wanted to say that)
